Michigan, what has happened to my Michigan?

I am a Michigan fan, with that said I am not proud of how they handled the coaching hire, the stadium 'upgrade', nor the attitude towards their fan base.

The hiring of Rich Rodriguez didn't bother me as much as the classlessness of the process of the hire. The 'covert' meetings in Toledo to try to hire a man away from a university that had just extended his contract the year before. It showed a lack of class and respect for another institution's program and made Michigan look like the bully in class that felt that he can take anything they want.

They then push through plans to add luxury boxes to the Big House with no word on plans to remove seats in the lower bowl to allow more than one lane for all the aisles. When I went to games in the 80's there was enough room for two lanes, people going up the aisle and people going down. Seems like a simple concept that has worked for every other stadium in the world. But due to either greed or jealousy, Michigan decided to add seats that closed the aisles to a single lane. All to compete with Tennessee for the largest stadium in college football. Lines form outside the stadium with wait times up to 30 minutes simply to enter the stadium. Once inside people could not get out to use the restroom, some were forced to use empty cups in the stands themselves. All of this to have the fictitious title of largest stadium in the NCAA?

Jim Harbaugh had it right. Michigan has lost it's way and it saddens me. I hope Rodriguez does well, but if in a couple of years all he has to show for his efforts is a history of thwarting tradition and lowering the standards of the Michigan football program, then the only way to save face would be to hire Harbaugh to bring Michigan back to a team and institution that I can be proud of.
